Preludes and
Fugues CD
£12.00
Description:
This is my 22nd and last CD. It’s a very personal programme. I want to thank all those who have bought previous recordings during my enjoyable journey over more than 30 years.

Unmeasured preludes paired with Scarlatti fugues.
Also preludes, and fugues, by Handel, Roseingrave, Mattheson, and D’Anglebert: a stunning and varied compilation.

Bach’s preludes and fugues, particularly those which he compiled into the two books of the Well-tempered Clavier, are arguably the pinnacle of this form of composition. But the preludes have nothing to do with their fugues. The only common feature is that they are in the same key. So why, I wondered, should I not assemble a programme of my own favourite preludes and fugues – remote from each other in style, but in the same key - and using music by different composers? Taking advantage of this freedom, I could play all the wonderful ‘unmeasured’ preludes of Louis Couperin which I had not already recorded; and also make what I believe is a world premiere recording of all five of Scarlatti’s fugues.
